" Had a great stay at the colectivo, hosts are very relaxed and helpful. The lofts are something to dream of. "

" In Bocas del Toro I spent a night in the jungle sleeping on a wooden board in an open-air hut I stumbled upon, with mosquitos eating me all night and using a metal pan as my pillow.
But fortunately, after sleeping at El Collectivo de Saigan that experience wasn't so bad in comparison. The mosquitos at the collectivo are a bit smaller but the company in the jungle was much better. So it was a bit of a toss-up.
Anyhow, I attempted to purchase a motorcycle outside of the collective that was owned by one of the long term tenants. Dan(the owner of this establishment) acted as the intermediary and accepted my money to give to the owner. It turned out the motorcycle was broken (stopped working multiple times, unfortunately after the payment was sent) and the tenant was not the actual owner of the motorcycle. So anyways, I asked for the money back, but he refused, and eventually I was out $1000 and escorted out of the collectivo.
I involved the local police, and disputed the transaction with PayPal, but it's unlikely I'll get anything back.
Anyhow, be careful, travelers. "

" Stayed at El Colectivo for almost 2 months. Instantly fell in love with the place when we saw it and Dan was easy to communicate with via facebook. So many great things about this place: the views!, filtered water, free coffee anytime, very sweet animals, 1$ beers, and just the coolest construction that will instantly make you think of a modern Swiss Family Robinson. Dan has created a unique, creative and beautiful place with excellent architecture.
Full fridge (on the top floor apartments), we got a new sofa (super comfy), had plenty of kitchen appliances (burner plates, blender, microwave oven), and had no problems cooking almost all of our meals. Internet speed was fantastic and reliable, despite the normal expected island outages. A little of a walk to town but less than a dollar if you grab a taxi. Plus very close to a wavy beach, basketball and volleyball courts.
It is not soundproof, or completely sealed off from the environment/bug-proof, and there are definitely quirks to the place, but if you come with an open, good-humored attitude (as you should on most Caribbean islands) it can be a paradise. We never got sick of seeing Hawks, Parrots, Montezuma Oropendolas, or seabirds everyday, and could even spy stingrays and starfish from the balcony when there was a calm sea.
Dan and Leo were quick on any requests or concerns we had and were genuinely friendly and kind people. They are very chill also and will help with any questions you might have. They even helped me with yard birding and showed us a sloth that had wandered onto the property.
If we are ever back on Isla Colon, I know exactly where we're going to stay. Miss the place, Bella, Tori, Angel and even ankle-nipping Billy III! "
