" The Camelids
Camelids i believe are one-hump dromedaries, obviously related to camels. The New World native Camelids are alpaca, llama, vicuña, and guanaco.

The alpaca and the llama. The llama is bigger, has a longer neck. It's meat isn't as good quality but it can carry 30-some odd kilos. There exist no wild, only tame alpacas and llamas. (I thought that one of the impediments to the development of civilization in the New World was the non-existence of domesticable mammals.) The alpaca comes in white, brown, grey, and black. It has more protein by weight than does beef, pork, or mutton.

The vicuña has the softest fur. Eighty percent of the world's population is in Peru where there are estimated to be 50,000. There's a 4-10–year jail sentence for the illegal harvesting of vicuña fur, or maybe for illegally hunting them I can't remember.

Guanacos range across Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. The largest population is in Argentina. "
