" Come here to experience a grand old hotel from a more formal, romantic age.
Sure, she's an anachronism, with her classical architecture, wood panelling, brass fixtures and granite pillars. Look a bit closer, and maybe she's a little frayed around the edges, and the recent work she's had done doesn't quite measure up to the beautiful original architecture & craftsmanship.
But honestly, where else in the New World can you fling open your French doors and step out onto your balcony overlooking the city's historic centre square, while your curtains billow back into your classically furnished room, with its 20 foot ceilings, plenty of closet space for your steamer trunks, and all the modern conveniences the 1920s have to offer, plus WiFi? Definitely not the Hilton!
Wish we'd had a few days to explore the impossibly long hardwood-lined corridors to the rooms, climb the grand staircase, and discover where the other marble-arched doorways off the lobby led to, but our visit was short & sweet. "
