Marriage Encounter finds its roots from Barcelona, Spain. Three years after having been ordained priest in May 31, 1959, Father Gabriel Calvo designed the “Encuentro Conjugal” in 1962 and had the first seminar for 28 couples from the workers of factories in Spain. In 1965, the “Encuentro Conjugal” weekend seminar was brought to Mexico. Crossing borders of land and language, “Encuentro Conjugal” became “Marriage Encounter” when it was brought to the United States in 1966. By the year 1967, Marriage Encounter was introduced at the Christian family Movement (CFM) convention held in the U.S.A.
