The National Safety Office received a call on Dec 18 regarding a suspected UXO item near the Roman Tmetuchl International Airport in Airai. Members of our ERW/UXO Team were sent out and recovered a fused 5inch JPN Naval Round. The item was then transported to the demolition site for safe keeping until proper disposal.

Clearance of the earlier reported site in Aimeliik remains ongoing, as the NPA-Palau / National Safety Office ERW/UXO Team continues to recover a variety of different types of munition.

Following a lead from Melekeok State, a joint operation between JMAS and NPA-Palau / National Safety Office was launched, and 11 Type JE Antiboat Mines (Beach Mines) were recovered. The items were then transported to the demolition site for future disposal.

The National Safety Office ERW/UXO Team responded to a call regarding a suspected UXO item in Aimeliik. An initial technical survey uncovered more than 70 ERW items in the area. Further detection and clearance will be required before the area is declared safe.

Safety Office/NPA Palau joined Debedebokel (local NGO) in celebrating Olechotel Belau Fair (OBF) 2019 in Ngaraard State held last October 24, 2019. The celebration was meant to show the rich history of Palau through arts and native dances.

Safety Office/NPA Palau was asked to be present at their booth to show samples of munitions found in Palau and assist Debedebokel volunteers in talking with people about these ERW items.

Another 500lbs US GP Bomb found and recovered off the coast of PPR by the National Safety Office ERW/UXO team. The item was then towed to Kamosang dock by an improvised float, then transported to the Demolition Site for future cutting and demolition.

National Safety Office would like to once again, recognize RIM Nativa for their assistance in the recovery, as well as the Koror State Rangers for providing security.
