" “The Assumption of the Virgin Mary” Church - Căpăt, Timiș
Built in the eighteenth century, the wooden church from Căpăt, Racovița village has been relocated a couple of times during its existence. It seems the actual building location was a village named Săliște. The first relocation, in a place named “Izvor” (tr. “water spring”) had been accomplished at the end of the eighteenth century due to frequent flooding. The relocation on the current spot took place at the beginning of the nineteenth century as part of an urban planning project in the Banat area. In 1925 a new church was built in the vicinity of the wooden one.
The original roof and bell tower were destroyed during a powerful storm in 1931. Subsequently, the Museum of Banat undertook ample restoration work. In 1932, the church was included on the official historical monuments list.
Unfortunately, the restoration in 1931 was the last time this church was restored. At this time, the church is severely degraded. In spring 2017, through volunteer work, a protection cover was mounted on the church’s roof.
In the light of its beauty and profound significance, this church deserves intense public attention and care rather than to be subjected to further neglect. This is one of the main reasons we wrote an extensive review on this church. "
