" The “Nativity of Saint John the Baptist” Church - Romanesti, Timis
It is believed that the wooden church of Românești was initially built somewhere on the River Mureș Valley and then relocated to Românești during the eighteenth century. When the new church was built in the village, this one became a cemetery chapel. Situated in a picturesque natural setting, elevated on a high hill in the middle of the cemetery, this church presents very interesting and unique features.
Built from massive oak wood, the walls are plastered with clay on the outside. The tower, covered with clapboard, features the most beautiful bulb of Baroque inspiration found in the Banat area. The eave over the narthex entrance is remarkable, being extended almost to the ground for the purpose of protection from bad weather. The earthen floor and the wooden shingle roof complete the authentic rustic look of this church. In front of the west entry there is a separate steeple with a bell.
Unfortunately, the church is rapidly degrading, especially the roof and the interior painting. At the time of this review (September 2017), there were no known rehabilitation plans. "
