Description

Pathlight School is the first autism-focused school in Singapore that offers Singapore's mainstream academic curriculum together with life readiness skills. It caters to students with autism, aged 7 to 18 years, who are cognitively able to access mainstream academic curriculum, but require additional support such as smaller class sizes, special accommodations and teaching staff trained in autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

The School was established by Autism Resource Centre (Singapore) at the invitation of the Ministry of Education (MOE). ARC(S) is a not-for-profit charity based in Singapore and registered in 2000. It was started by professional and parent volunteers dedicated to serving children and adults with ASD to help these individuals lead meaningful and independent lives in society.

Recently, our students from Vocational Track took part in a Day Camp. As part of our Project One Initiative, the Day Camp aimed to develop students holistically in the aesthetic, physical, socio-emotional, moral and cognitive areas.

Themed “Work Hard, Play Hard”, this year’s camp introduced students to leisure activities that they could engage in outside of school. Students went to various locations around Singapore for trampoline jumping, ice skating or laser tag, before ending the day with a movie, Hotel Transylvania 3.

Through the camp, students learned to work in teams, improved their hand-eye coordination and practised managing money. It was definitely a day well spent!

Last month, our Secondary 3 students attended a 2 Day/1 Night camp at the MOE Dairy Farm Outdoor Adventure Learning Centre. As part of our Project One initiative, the camp aimed to develop students holistically in the aesthetic, physical, socio-emotional, moral and cognitive areas.

Through a series of activities focused on outdoor adventure training, team building and self-reflection, the camp instilled in our students confidence and resilience. There, they had a memorable ti...me engaging in outdoor activities such as the challenge rope course, rock climbing and night hike. Many of them even overcame their fear by completing the challenges on their own. Not only that, friendship and teamwork were also strengthened through quality time spent together during group activities.

All in all, our students learnt to respond to challenges positively and persevere in the face of setbacks while enjoying the outdoors.
