The Parliament of Southwest is the State legislative branch of Somali Federal Government, seated at Baidoa the temporary capital city of the state. Formally, the Assembly consists of 95 representative MPs from the three regions of the state (Bay, Lowershabelle and Bakool).The duties of the MPs is to ensure that the State Assembly exercises its legislative, oversight, representation and outreach duties effectively, accountably and transparently; that the Assembly remains the main forum for national political debate; promotes upholding of the State Constitution and rule of law and remains the leading state body protecting the fundamental rights of every citizen of Southwest State of Somalia.
