" We were in unit 6, Ginger. Were there for seven nights starting July 15th. Paid a premium to be on the beach with direct access to the beach. Seaweed was a real problem causing it impossible to use the beach at all. Front end loaders moving seaweed from one end to the other from early morning to sunset. Beeping as they backed up starting some mornings before 7AM. The smell was terrible some days, all that rotting seaweed was piled up next to our unit. The private pool was awesome and we did enjoy the visiting iguanas. Disappointed that ReMax, who booked and managed our stay, gave us no warning about the seaweed. Would have been nice if they offered us a rebate or paid for a dinner for the 6 of us in the unit. The unit was clean, but a lot of dead/dying roaches. Our refrigerator did freeze up, but they quickly fixed it after we called.
We did have a rental car and were able to visit beaches on the island where the seaweed was not as bad. But be prepared. Lots of winding narrow roads and the locals tend to drive either aggressive or really slow. No incidents, but had a few scares. And a word of advice. If you do get a rental make sure you mark every dent, scrape, scratch, etc. since the rental places make extra money on you for repairs when you return the car. We took pictures as well for evidence.
We also pre-ordered groceries. But expect the prices to be a lot higher than going into town and shopping on your own. It was convenient though. Local Carib beer $28 a case preorder, $19 in town.
There were several restaurants close by, Big Fish, Canoa, and a local place called Mr Busby. We tried them all and they were good plus it saved having to drive on the roads at night. Service is on island time, so be patient.
One highlight was PYC in Oyster Pond Marina right next to CBC. We chartered a boat and had a great time sailing to a couple of spots to snorkel and swim. In all, the family, 6 adults, had a good time, we always do, but St Maarten won't be on the list for future vacations. And if we do, we may look for places on the French side of the island where the seaweed seemed less or better manged. "

" Awesome, we stayed directly on the beach with private pool. The Villas are spectacular. This is a small community of Villas.. The grounds and maintenance are beautiful and landscaped and spartenly clean. Dawn Beach is beautiful and quiet. There are 4 restaurants in walking distance, we loved them. Many times we ordered to-go and brought our meals back to the villa ! The staff, pool man, housekeeping, hostess as well 5-star. This community and these villas are a find. We found them in vrbo, and they are google as well. There will be only one destination for us, this is our 2nd visit. ! "
