" Hopeless. Many places in Taiwan are hard work for an English speaker but this place is one of the worst. It's a long way from town (certainly too far to walk in the dark) which makes life difficult. Restaurant was shut and although it's not the hotel's fault a taxi driver tried to rip me off by insisting Lukang was closed (really a Taiwan town of 40,000, shut at 6pm? Of course it wasn't he just wanted a bigger fare, taking me miles out of the road instead) but communications difficulties didn't help. When I got back to the hotel the boss kindly took me into town (which wasn't closed, needless to say) but his good work was utterly undone by being kept awake till 3am by the hotels own barking dogs, chained up next to my room window. Utterly, utterly dreadful. "
