About Ongea Radio Programme
ONGEA is an edutainment Radio programme developed by Tanzania Commission For AIDS (TACAIDS) and Zanzibar AIDS Commission (ZAC) in collaboration with UNICEF and other partners, which is dedicated to adolescents boys and girls.ONGEA is an edutainment radio drama series that provides a view of the lives of young fictional characters aged 15-19 and their caregivers.It tells a story about their choices, dreams, friendships, challenges and triumphs in the community where school dropouts, STIs including HIV, violence, early pregnancies, anaemia and menstrual hygiene management are still serious challenges. The radio series reaches adolescents with gender and age-appropriate messages on prevention and management of problems related to sexual reproductive health, HIV and AIDS, girls' education, nutrition and violence. The ONGEA radio programme aims to complement the ongoing national and community interventions to improve adolescents' health and wellbeing.The programme has been implemented in Mbeya, Iringa, Njombe, Songwe, and Zanzibar (Unguja and Pemba) Regions.To ensure successful implementation of the programme, through a competitive process, TAWI Consult (www.tawi.co.tz) in collaboration with SUMASESU (NGOs) won a bid to provide technical support to the selected LGAs and community radio stations in implementing the ONGEA programme by organizing, adolescents' platforms, dissemination of materials produced, utilization of the adolescent radio program through social media and monitoring throughout the process.
