Currently, the farmers in Palabeke Ogill are faced with the challenge of poor storage and extraction of the shea nut oil. The farmers are basically using the local method of frying the nuts, pounding them for several hours, and eventually boiling them to get the oil extracted. The process takes longer and the quantity of oil extracted at the end of such a process is so small compared to the efforts put in. The quality of the shea nut oil is low since water is added to it in the boiling process hence, limiting its market share, also a lot of fuel in form of wood is used during the boiling process which takes close to four hours.The SNEM-shea Uganda enterprise limited focuses on improving the livelihood of the people in Northern Uganda especially in the LRA (Lord Resistance Army) affected areas who depend entirely on agriculture and in particular on shea oil production for their survival. With this enterprise, we provide farmers with an alternative method to quicken the production of the shea oil thus, better-improved quality and quantity of shea oil is extracted with less impact on the environment and also reduction on post-harvest loss by microbial spoilage.
