It’s a great day at Primacare!

Last night, I was on call as a hospitalist. A nurse called me about one of my admissions, that the patient was not doing well postoperatively. I left dinner with my family based more upon the tone of the nurse's voice than her words. I arrived to a patient in acute respiratory distress with a large hematoma pressing on her trachea. I mobilized the on call surgical team and the patient was intubated and taken back to the OR. The attending on -call spine surgeon, an amazing fel...low named Dr. Rafath Baig, asked if I could fill in as the first assist as that member of the team had not arrived. So, after I don't know how many years, I scrubbed in and was doing surgery (?!) (at 1AM). And it was amazing and exciting. But more than anything else, I was left thankful for the fierce dedication of men and women like Dr. Baig who stand on that wall every day and night, ready to help anyone in need. Merry Christmas to each and everyone of them!
