We appreciate Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. and City Attorney Tom Carpenter for recommending that the Civil Service Commission suspend its rule banning all recordings of its hearings.
The Arkansas Press Association was attending a meeting regarding the matter at Little Rock City Hall when the suspension was announced.
A coalition of transparency advocates joined APA in this effort including the Arkansas Society of Professional Journalists, KATV Ch. 7 in Little Rock, the... Arkansas Freedom of Information Coalition and Quattlebaum, Grooms & Tull.
The suspension is a victory for the citizens of Arkansas and for transparency.

Training future journalists with the APA Kids’ Press Camp is always a highlight of each convention.
This year participants visited the Hot Springs Visitors Center and took a stroll down Historic Bathhouse Row to “cover” the city before returning to interview APA Trade Show vendors and others attending the convention.
To complete the reporting experience, campers created their own newspapers.
