On this Mother's Day, we pay tribute to all of the strong and amazing women of the National Criminal Defense College who have been pillars of this great profession. There are too many to name here, but they are great examples of the type of selfless advocacy that makes us so proud. And please join me in congratulating the NCDC's own Juval Scott on being sworn in as the Federal Defender for the Western District of Virginia. Juval is the right person and a great leader for that office. So proud!

Congratulations to Julia Mudd on her selection as the 2019 recipient of a National Criminal Defense College Trial Practice Institute scholarship from the Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (B. Scott West, President, Donna Brown, Executive Director):

The KACDL Board is proud to announce that it has selected Julia Mudd with the Louisville Metro Public Defender's Office (LMPD) as this year's NCDC/TPI Scholarship recipient. Ms. Mudd has practiced for almost 12 year...s, primarily as a public defender, and she currently serves as an Adult Trial Division supervisor at LMPD. Over the years she has proven to be an aggressive, effective advocate for the interests of her clients, and she is known and respected for her legal knowledge, trial skills and professionalism. We are confident that her attendance at this year's TPI will be mutually beneficial for her, for NCDC, and for the criminal defense community. We are proud that she will be representing the Commonwealth of Kentucky at this premier national training event!

Julia says that she is “looking forward to developing new skill sets and learning new techniques in a supportive and focused environment. I am thankful to NCDC and KACDL for allowing me this amazing opportunity.”

Congratulations to Crystal Bice, 2018 TPI Graduate and 2019 attendee at Litigating Expert Testimony in Georgia. Crystal's recent work at the program in Atlanta has already borne fruit - She won a favorable ruling in a Harper hearing the day after the program. Love that! Congrats Crystal!
