As you can see in the picture, @ashleymcd10 has a crazy amount of active external rotation! Most people don’t come near this, which means she really needs to be strong in her posterior cuff to help stabilize the head of the humerus, and to control this extreme range safely. @coach_dill_ is working to give her some resistance and to keep her arm in an appropriate position. Not all ER holds are created equally!

This prone external rotation (ER) liftoff is much more difficult than it looks. In fact, this is some stellar active control from #MLB pitcher Luke Putkonen. Most people can’t even get this much ER passively! So what does your arm care look like? Do you know how to feel the right things during even the most basic drills? This is why a good evaluation and good training matters!!

Check out @gavin.grubbs (@lipscombbaseball commit) making a difficult drill look easy here. ⚾️ This drill is a progression from the traditional paloff press as the arms moving over head present a new challenge. The goal would be to now resist extension, or flaring of the rib cage, making is anti-rotation AND anti extension. Lots of bang for your buck!! 🏋️‍♀️ Attempted photo bomb by @andrew.gordon15

❗️2 KB Anterior Load RFESS ❗️ ⚾️ This drill is quite a challenge, as it trains single leg strength and stability (obviously). It also requires a tremendous amount of core strength and stability to maintain an upright torso. This is immensely important for any athlete. As an added bonus the reach with the elbows recruits serratus anterior, an important muscle that helps govern scapular movement. 🏋️‍♀️ These aren’t for the faint of heart! Nice work @aaronosada !

How do your push ups look??? ⚾️ The push up is one of our favorite exercises to program and coach. The truth is, most people don’t do them correctly! It’s a great option in addition to other more loaded presses to develop: 💪🏻 -scapulo-humeral rhythm (arm & scap move together) ... - scapular protraction - upper body strength -core control/strength 🏋️‍♀️ Make sure you train these with a purpose!!
