The University of Georgia Alumni Association was founded in 1834 as the Alumni Society and was the fourth organization of former students to be created by any institution of higher learning in America and the first Alumni Society in the South. The name was changed to The UGA National Alumni Association in 1996.
The name changed to The UGA Alumni Association in 1999. The Board of Directors serves in an advisory capacity to the Association's Executive Committee. These governing bodies are made up of 55 alumni working to promote, support and advance the programs and services provided by the Alumni Association to the UGA community.
