About North Park University Music for Social Change
The first undergraduate certificate in the country dedicated to El Sistema-inspired music pedagogy.
The Music School of North Park University offers the first undergraduate certificate in the country dedicated to El Sistema-inspired music pedagogy. Developed in collaboration with The People's Music School in Chicago, the certificate provides preparation in "El Sistema," a philosophy of creating social change for children and their families and communities, transforming their lives through intensive musical training that is embedded in human values.
The Certificate in Music for Social Change and Human Values consists of 8 semester hours of coursework. Centered on instruction using bowed string instruments (violin, viola, cello and bass), the certificate will enable candidates to enhance their knowledge of and experience in El Sistema-inspired music pedagogy while complementing and deepening students' learning in their primary area of focus. The program is open for anyone interested in continuing education.
