Families from northeastern Germany settled on farmland northeast of what would be the city of Altamont in the 1860s. St. Paul Lutheran Church in the Blue Point area was organized in 1865 with a church, parsonage, and cemetery. A constitution was adopted for the church in 1869. That same year the church voted for a Christian day school.
The current church was built in 1879. The church used the old church building as the school until a new school was built in 1910. In 1962, the one-room school was divided into two classrooms. In 1989 the four Altamont Missouri Synod congregations joined to form the Altamont Lutheran Interparish School for K through eighth grades. The school continues today: http://www.altamontlis.com/index1.asp
