First Presbyterian Church and Purple Carrots Productions are pleased to announce a Bob Dylan Tribute as the November 2019 Music for Mission concert. Using the same format as the popular Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell Tributes, musicians are invited to submit video recordings of two Dylan songs for consideration. We are looking for a variety of musical styles to interpret the span of Dylan's catalog. Both solo acts and larger groups are encouraged to submit. We plan to pick 1...0 acts to perform two songs each. The concert will be held on Friday, November 8 at First Presbyterian Church (FPC), Lexington, KY. FPC seats 450 people, has a concert piano and excellent acoustics. Professional sound and lighting technicians will ensure a high quality concert.

Local sponsors provide funding to pay the musicians and technical staff. Each act will receive $200 for each song performed. Tickets are free and the audience is asked to make donations to the featured non-profit organization. The beneficiary for this tribute, Greenhouse 17, is committed to ending intimate partner abuse in families and communities.Over the last 10 years, Music for Mission has raised over $114,000 to support local non-profits.

Send submissions to Marlon Hurst, Director of Music and Arts, at mhurst@fpclex.org by August 1 with subject line: BOB DYLAN TRIBUTE SUBMISSION. Please send You Tube links, NOT MP3 files. List two other songs you would consider performing if chosen, in case duplicate songs are submitted. Selected artists will be announced August 30.

Join us for the next LexArts Gallery Hop Friday, May 17th, from 5-8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served as you have the opportunity to view our current exhibit of paintings by Robbin Weingartner. Following a career as a commercial artist and metalworker, Weingartner returned to painting following a major upheaval in his life that caused him to re-evaluate his artistic expressions and begin to create art that was direct and spontaneous. The paintings in this exhibit are the result of that exploration. For more information on the artist and his work, visit our webpage at fpclex.org/In-the-Gallery.
