WHO IS BOY SCOUT TROOP 602 ?

Boy Scout Troop 602 is dedicated to serving the needs of boys (aged 11 - 18) by providing regular opportunities for friendship, leadership and service to others in a safe, supervised setting.

Scouts are led by boy leaders elected by the troop; adults only monitor the troop's activities for purposes of safety, transportation, fiscal stability and advice and counsel.

T602 meets every Tuesday evening at 7pm at Emmanuel United Methodist Church 10755 Scaggsville Road, LAUREL MD. They camp out once each month; and usually have a week at summer camp every year. These experiences build strong friendships that can last a lifetime.

The troop emphasizes service to others; the Scouts collect food in the annual Scouting for Food drive, and every Eagle Scout project must be of benefit to school, church or community.

Service hours performed within the Scouting program will often satisfy public school graduation requirements too.

WHAT DO WE VALUE?

Scouts are guided by the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. Scouts pledge each week to do their duty to God and country and to serve others; and their 12-point Law teaches components of personal responsibility and character. Scout values are non-denominational; T602 has welcomed members of the Jewish, Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths.

Scout values are not exclusive with respect to any cultural group or ethnic background; Scouting is truly a global, international program. Scouting values encourage and support the religious teaching that boys receive in their homes and in their respective places of worship.

WHAT ARE OUR GOALS ?

1. GROW: Reach 1st Class Scout rank within one calendar year…and have fun.

2. STRETCH: Everyone who reaches Life Scout should try for EAGLE…and have fun.

3. ACHIEVE: Develop leadership and inter-personal skills, receive recognition for service and achievement…and have fun.

WE USE THE PATROL METHOD

Participation; open to all boys who promise to abide by the Scout Oath and Law; the Scout uniform promotes unity and team spirit.
Activities; focused on Scout advancement and growth
Teamwork; no solo superstars--everyone works together
Responsibilities; everyone has a job, and contributes, and is valued
Organization; prior planning produces premier patrol performances
Leadership; boys lead boys so they can learn to lead as men.
