Digital Breast Tomosynthesis May Lower Breast Biopsy Rates Without Reducing Cancer Detection, Study Indicates. The Radiology Business Journal (3/19, Walter) reports researchers found “implementing digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) leads to lower breast biopsy rates without having a negative impact on cancer detection.” The findings were published in Radiology. Aunt Minnie (3/19, Yee) reports Dr. Nisha Sharma of the UK’s Leeds Teaching Hospital National Health Service... Trust, the study’s lead author, said, “DBT as a screening modality will help to reduce false-positive recalls, and this in turn will minimize harm. It’s an important tool in the diagnostic workup of mammographic lesions, as it provides radiologists with additional information that can reduce the need for biopsy in a significant number of women.” Medscape (3/19, McCall, Subscription Publication) also reports.
