AMCE at Lincoln University-Missouri is a four-year progressive program of intense development for men of color majoring in education.

Description

The Academy for Men of Color in Education (AMCE) at Lincoln University, Missouri is an outreach and retention initiative sponsored by the Department of Education. It is a four-year progressive program of intense development whose mission is to holistically prepare men of color for successful career as pre-service and in-service educators through an intensive personal, academic, and professional development.

AMCE’s goals are to develop a comprehensive system of support for collegiate men of color preparing to enter the education profession; to increase the number of men of color who graduate with a teaching degree from Lincoln University; to develop a "pipeline" of teachers to urban classrooms; and ultimately, to increase the visibility of minority role models in lower performing schools throughout the state of Missouri and the nation.

AMCE selects a limited number of participants from a pool of interested candidates; high school and community college transfer students based on recommendations, a two-page interest essay, and personal interview response..

AMCE engages participants in teacher preparation exploration activities that reinforce learning during the regular collegiate/pre-service experience. The program provides hands-on teaching experience, sustains their interest in the profession, and helps cultivate skills needed to be successful in the classroom.

AMCE focuses on:
• Character, personal, and professional development
• Academic/social networking
• Time management
• Admission to the Ed. Prep. Program
• Mentoring
• Career Readiness
• Fulfillment of certification and graduation requirements
