So much happening at @nos_vegas tonight for @fridaysquared We are honored that @genderjusticenevada has entrusted our gallery with the art show component of their celebration tonight. We stand for inclusion and empowerment, always. 💜💜💜

Put up some window grids to allow me to hang the artwork for tonight's pop-up show. It's a nice solution for extra "wall space." 😊

We will be open late for Friday Squared at New Orleans Square. Of course, you can also join us in the gallery during our regular business hours: Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11am-4pm.

Core Contemporary presents the current exhibition of “BLOW-OUT/FLOW'r-OUT”, a 2-person exhibition featuring artists, Leon Syfrit and Holly Lay.

Leon Syfrit is an award-winning photographer whose current work focuses on reclaiming, repurposing, and reinventing found objects. In this exhibit, h...e transforms blown-out automobile tires found along random highways into sculpture-like fine art photographic prints. He also enjoys documentary photography, alternative photographic processes, and restoring and preserving vintage photographs and negatives. Syfrit’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and is included in several permanent collections including the Philadelphia History Museum, the Free Library of Pennsylvania, and Darkroom Gallery in Vermont. Leon Holds a BFA in Photography from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prior to relocating to Las Vegas in 2016, Leon taught photography at the Delaware College of Art and Design in his home town of Wilmington, Delaware.

Holly Lay is a 3rd year MFA candidate at UNLV, who received her BFA in photography and intermedia arts from Ball State University. She exhibits nationally and internationally with work that examines cyber culture, femininity, craft and kitsch. A recent exhibition Untitled Screen Caps is featured in the Past, Present, Future photography exhibit at the New Orleans Museum of Art. The work is a collection of screen captures from various media outlets that used her self-portrait stock photography. It explores the way images of women are manipulated and used in the media. For her exhibition at CORE, Lay uses varying mediums and source material, including fiber and photography to explore juxtapositions between the past and present, permanence and evolution.

Curated by gallery owner, Nancy Good, who shares, “The exhibit seeks to engage viewers with deep visual dialogue, revealing that even the most mundane of discarded objects can be transformed into arresting pieces of fine art. Things are never as they seem.”

The exhibition runs through June 1st, with artist talks happening later this May.

Located the historic Sahara Commercial Center/New Orleans Square, Core Contemporary provides an engaging and accessible setting in which to experience remarkable original art, meet working artists, watch live painting, enjoy immersive educational forums, listen to live music, and host private events.

CORE Contemporary is so excited to facilitate this exhibition opportunity for these talented MFA students. We are hosting this in what we call "The Annex," the space just next door to the gallery. It's a holiday weekend, so a great night to come out and engage with art. It's also our monthly 3rd Saturday Bazaar in New Orleans Square, so there's lots to do and see beyond the art.

While we are usually open on Wednesdays, tomorrow we'll be closed for continuing installation of the upcoming show and because our janitor (Nancy) is moonlighting as a speaker at Nevada Magazine's FOCUS 4, at Nevada State Museum. ;-)

We'll still be installing on Thursday and part of Friday, but we're not shy about sharing the process for those who want to "peek behind the curtain" before the opening reception Friday, 6-8pm.
