This recent Scholastic poll, reported by Education Week, confirmed what most teachers suspected, students are not reading over the summer. Students from low-income communities experience, on average, a two-month loss in reading during the summer as compared to their more affluent peers.

Scholastic did a study and found that while 94% of parents agree that reading during summer break can help their children during the school year, only 47% of them are aware of “summer slide” and that reading is a key factor in preventing it.
