Tonight EPA Regional Administrator Pete Lopez will be meeting with the newly-formed Community Advisory Group (CAG) for the Dewey Loeffel Landfill Superfund site. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The meeting will be held at 6:30pm at St. Mary’s Church Parish Hall (located behind the church), 26 Church Street, Nassau. The Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) of the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) held a public consultation forum in #PuertoRico focused on local stakeholder experiences in disaster impacts and community #resilience. The JPAC holds these forums to gather community and expert knowledge and advise the Council of the Commission. Puerto Rico’s Disaster Recovery Office Deputy Director Antonio Pavia and EPA Region 2 Caribbean Division Director Carmen... Guerrero to serve as speakers, along with local, NGO, tribal experts from Canada, Mexico, and the United States/Puerto Rico on the topic of extreme events and resilience at the community level. Their expert knowledge on local stakeholder participation in disaster recovery is an invaluable asset to community resilience, and the group visited communities serving as local leaders. After the public forum, the JPAC visited two communities in Puerto Rico that serve as leaders on disaster recovery and community resilience, the community of Toro Negro in Ciales and the 8 communities of the #CañoMartínPeña in San Juan.
