We are grateful to our teachers and staff at WES who work so hard EVERYDAY for our students and are grateful for their support. Thank you for all you do! Good evening, Whitesides families,... This is a reminder that Tuesday, September 4th is Independence Day for all of our students! This is the day that we celebrate all of our students walking to classrooms on their own – they are ready to go! We encourage all students to wear red, white, and blue to celebrate this big day for our STAR students in CD through 5th grade! Staff members are stationed inside the building in various locations should any student need assistance. We also want to remind parents that the Mt. Pleasant Waterworks parking lot is not available for use in either the morning or the afternoon. We realize that this is a big change from previous years, and we communicated these changes, beginning in July. That lot has never been a part of CCSD property, and for safety reasons surrounding construction, we are asking all parents to abide by this change in procedure. This was a joint decision made by Whitesides and Mt. Pleasant Waterworks. If you are transporting students in a car, please use the car line in the front of the building. The use of Hale Road for drop-off and pick up is not an option. This area is specifically for walkers and bikers. In order to ensure the safety of our children, MPPD has monitored and will continue to monitor this area. For security reasons, we must also ask parents to refrain from walking through the back door (from the bus loop) and into the building. All visitors must come through the front office to get a visitor pass before entering the main building. Bus service is available for students who live beyond walking distance from our school. The bus route information is listed on our Whitesides home page. The link can be found in the top right corner. We are hopeful that our morning traffic pattern will improve each day, as it does at the beginning of each school year. We want to assure you that we are monitoring traffic and procedures each day and are making adjustments as necessary. As in various areas of Mt. Pleasant, we are experiencing “growing pains”, and while there are immediate needs, we are collaboratively working with others on long-term solutions as we anticipate continued growth. We need your help in following procedures that have been put in place with this most important goal as our focus --- to keep all of our children safe. Thank you for your continued support!
