Our Story!

Stars Alive Music is led by Chantel Mead, a seasoned performer, recording artist, and music educator. While she loves performing, her true passion lies in creating exciting and uplifting experiences in the performing arts for young people~!

Chantel grew up in the hill country, but after college found herself happily tucked away in the Rocky Mountains. She actually began her teaching company as the Boulder Stars - as in Boulder, CO - where she lived, performed and taught for over 12 years. Then, in 2010, she and her husband, Derek, moved to NYC where the company became the Brooklyn Stars. This past summer brought the blessing of their first child, and they decided to move to Austin to raise their little girl close to Grandma & Grandpa!

Chantel is excited to come back to the hill country and make Austin her home - both for her family, and her performing arts company!

While her credentials are steep: a BFA in Musical Theater, Minor in Classical Voice, graduate work in Vocal Pedagogy and over 20 years of performing experience... it is Chantel’s enthusiasm, passion and 10+ years of teaching music, directing children’s choirs, and teaching musical theater to kids (along with a deep understanding and connection to young people) that sets her apart.

In addition to running Stars Alive, Chantel is also the K-8 music teacher at the Austin Jewish Academy, and teaches voice & show choir at The Musicians Woodshed in Beecave, TX. Prior to this, she was the full time music teacher and musical theatre director at the Stephen Gaynor School in NYC. And before that she lived in Boulder, CO where she taught private lessons, ran the Boulder Stars, toured and recorded with her band, and directed children’s choirs in various churches.

And, very importantly, she is also the loving mother of a sweet and funny little girl named Xyla - who turns 1 in June!
