Colfax Township is a civil township of Oceana County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 574 at the 2000 census.The township was organized in 1869.GeographyAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.9sqmi, of which, 35.4sqmi of it is land and 0.6sqmi of it (1.56%) is water.DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 574 people, 192 households, and 134 families residing in the township. The population density was 16.2 per square mile (6.3/km²). There were 596 housing units at an average density of 16.8 per square mile (6.5/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 82.58% White, 0.35% African American, 0.70% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 15.33% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 20.73% of the population.There were 192 households out of which 26.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.04.
