About TERIS Teratogen Information System

TERIS is a unique and authoritative clinical teratology resource designed to assist physicians and other healthcare professionals in assessing the risks of medications and other exposures, such as viral infections, during pregnancy. The computerized database consists of summaries with teratogenic risk ratings for over 1,700 agents, each of which is based on a thorough review of the published clinical and experimental literature. All information on TERIS is analyzed and reviewed by an Advisory Board of world experts in medicine, epidemiology and genetics. The TERIS Advisory Board approve consensus ratings and risk assessments for each agent based on available data.TERIS was founded in 1986 by Dr. Jan M. Friedman, a clinical geneticist and professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at UBC, who remains a key member on the Advisory Board Committee.TERIS also provides an updated version of Shepard's Catalog of Teratogenic Agents which provides information on more than 3500 agents.
