From the Wisconsini/Nicaragua Project
Portesi donated buckets that are being used in Nicaragua to filter water for 40 families. Attached is a photo of the buckets that arrived on our last shipment from Wisconsin to Nicaragua – They were on a pallet and shrink wrapped, ready to go!
One stop was the Buenos Aires Learning Center, where Mayra Mendoza shared her concern for clean water. Lylene Scholz, HCE International Chair, was along and took this request back to her group ...in Wisconsin, who graciously purchased 40 water filters that would go to the attached families from Buenos Aires. (Mayra’s daughter, Escarleth, did the interviews on why the families are requesting a water filter – attached document) What does something like this cost and how long will it last?
40 units x $24.00 each = $960.00 1 Drill bit x $1.00 = $ 1.00 Packing and Shipping = $ 22.56
Total $983.56
“The life of the filter depends entirely on how faithfully they are back flushed. We recommend that they never be allowed to dry out and that they be back flushed every time they are used. If back flushed at least once a day, they should last three to five years and we have seen them last quite a bit longer than that.”
