Description

We, the Ekuphumuleni Nazareth Baptist Church, emerging from diverse backgrounds, are committed to unite and build a non-racial, non-sexist and democratic society, recognizing the central role played by the church in serving their community, determined to instill and nurture a culture of respect, human dignity, religion and love. We believe that Isaiah Shembe was a prophet sent from God, who at His instruction anointed his son J.G. Shembe (Ilanga) as his successor for the work of God. Ilanga prophesied about God’s calling upon B.L. Shelembe to Ekuphakameni Nazareth Baptist Church. B.L. Shelembe responded to God’s calling and went to Ekuphakameni Nazareth Baptist Church in 1969. After relating his testament, Ilanga responded by saying “God Hears YOU when you pray, so pray to Him”. Prior to his calling, B.L. Shelembe pastored a Zionist Church with a fast growing congregation. In 1971, he established Ekuphumuleni Nazareth Baptist Church. He was then given permission by iNkosi J.G. Shembe to continue with God’s work at Ekuphumuleni Nazareth Baptist Church. In 1974, iNkosi J.G. Shembe sent Umfundisi P Madlala to baptize and bless the Ekuphumuleni Nazareth Baptist Church congregation.
We also recognize the need for the comprehensive development, understanding and knowledge of our faith. Progress, growth, advancement, is what governs the church since its inception in 1971. Although the Ekuphumuleni Nazareth Baptist Church was originally incepted to cater for the black population, its objective has since changed to accommodate every person of all races. We uphold, practice and protect the principles of antagonism to discrimination and prejudice of whatever nature, in our relation with other churches, organizations and/or individuals of race, colour, gender or belief different to others, without compromising the beliefs, practices and values of the church. We also promote and protect the principles entrenched in the Bill of Rights, Chapter 2 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.
